The government has extended the tax discount with regard to the Land Registry fees until 31st December 2009.
The discount of 75% applies to the transfer fee payable by the purchasers. With the discount the regular transfer fee is 1.5% rather than the usual 6%. The first time private home buyers rate of 3% is similarly reduced to 0.75%.
The discount on the 6.25% witholding tax applied by the tax office (commonly know as stoppage) payable by professional sellers in sale transactions which reduced the tax to 4% is
extended as well and 4% applies.
